Privacy policy
This page explains what Wheelor, both the app and this website, does with your data. The short answer: as little as possible.
In short
- Wheelor works entirely on your PC. No account, no analytics, no ads, no tracking.
- Your wheels, actions and settings are saved in a file on your PC and are never sent to me or anyone else.
- The only connection Wheelor makes on its own is the update check: it downloads a small public file and sends nothing about you. You can turn it off.
- This website uses no cookies, no analytics and no third-party trackers.
Who I am
Wheelor is developed by Gabriele Iovino, an independent developer based in Italy. For any question about privacy, write to gabriele.iovino7@gmail.com.
What Wheelor does on your PC
- Settings. Your wheels, actions and preferences are saved in
%APPDATA%\Wheelor\config.toml(in the Microsoft Store version, in the private folder Windows keeps for the app). If Wheelor ever closes because of an unexpected error, it adds a short technical note, with version, time and error, tocrash.login the same folder. These files stay on your PC, and you can read, edit or delete them at any time. - Keyboard and mouse. Wheelor waits for the shortcuts you chose, for the wheel and for your actions, through the standard Windows hotkey feature. While the wheel is open, and while you record a key combination in Settings, it reads the keys and mouse movements needed to pick an action. While one of your actions is running, it only watches for the Esc key, so you can stop it. This happens in memory and in the moment: Wheelor doesn't record what you type, and doesn't save or send any input.
- The app in the foreground. When you open the wheel, Wheelor checks which program is in front (its file name and window title) to show the wheel you set up for that program and, if your commands use them, to pass them on to your actions (the
{app}and{title}placeholders, theWHEELOR_APPandWHEELOR_TITLEvariables). This information isn't saved. - Clipboard and selected text. Only when one of your actions uses them (the
{selection}and{clipboard}placeholders, or a Clipboard step), Wheelor reads the clipboard. For{selection}it copies the selected text with Ctrl+C and then puts back what the clipboard held before, keeping it out of the clipboard history. The text you type in an{ask:…}box is handled the same way. It all goes only into that action: Wheelor doesn't save it or send it anywhere. - Your actions. You choose the programs, files and websites your actions open and the commands they run. What happens there is up to them and their own privacy policies.
Internet connections
- Update check (installer version). With “Check for updates” on, as it is by default, Wheelor downloads
https://wheelor.app/latest.jsonabout 20 seconds after it starts and then every 6 hours, to see whether there's a new version. The request contains no identifier and no information about you or your setup: like any connection, it only reveals your IP address and the Wheelor version number to the server hosting the file. You can turn it off in Settings > General. - Updates. If you choose to update, the installer is downloaded from GitHub, where Wheelor versions are published. “What's new” opens the release notes on GitHub in your browser.
- Microsoft Store version. It doesn't check for updates on its own: the Store takes care of downloads and updates. Microsoft may give me statistics, such as the number of installs, and reports about crashes collected by Windows according to your diagnostic data settings. Microsoft's handling of this data is covered by the Microsoft Privacy Statement.
This website
- wheelor.app is hosted on GitHub Pages. When you visit it, GitHub receives technical data such as your IP address and may keep it in its logs for security reasons; I have no access to that data. See the GitHub Privacy Statement.
- The site uses no cookies, no analytics and no third-party trackers. Fonts and images are served by the site itself.
- If you switch language, your choice is saved in your browser's local storage so your next visit opens in that language. It's never sent anywhere, and you can remove it by clearing this site's data in your browser.
- The main button takes you to the Wheelor page on the Microsoft Store, covered by the Microsoft Privacy Statement; the installer link takes you to GitHub, where the installer is published.
Sharing and selling
I don't sell, rent or share personal data, because Wheelor doesn't collect any.
Children
Wheelor doesn't collect data from anyone, children included.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you have the right to access, correct and delete your personal data, to object to its processing and to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority, which in Italy is the Garante per la protezione dei dati personali. Since I hold no data about you, there is normally nothing to access or delete; for data handled by GitHub or Microsoft, you can contact them directly. For any question, write to me.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be published on this page with a new date.
